The queen's job is to lay as many eggs as possible, and they are very good at their job.
The workers' jobs are to bring back food to the queen and colony; make sure the eggs, larva and queen ant are cared for; and make sure the colony stays clean.
Acrobatic Ants lift their abdomens up over their head and that's why they are called "Acrobatic Ants."
This behavior is especially common when you disturb the ants nest.
They will also give off a funny smell as a defense.
Like many types of ants you can look for nest signs such as dead ants, insulation that is disturbed or heavy ant traffic.
These tiny ants are also a little more noticeable than other ants because they wave their "tails" in the air as a warning.
If you have old termite damage these ants may fill in the space and make it their new home.
Allegheny Mound Ants are multi-colored ants that have a brownish or off-red front-half and black or darkish brown back-half.
These ants build mounds and tunnel down to about 3 feet in softer soils.
Sense Allegheny Mound Ants dig so deep they "mound" the dirt on the surface, and that's how they get their name.
Allegheny Mound Ants are seldom found in homes, mainly because they cannot dig their mounds into your carpet or hardwood floors, but they can be found outside around the house, especially if you have a lot of field type grass or wooded areas.
Argentine Ants can be identified by their multi-segmented antennae.
It's divided into 12 segments.
They are brown ants with shading from light brown to dark brown.
These ant colonies can be run by a couple Queens, or be extra large and have have hundreds of Queens.
They can be found in a lot of locations but generally like to be where it's moist, like water leaks, creeks, lakes or under houses and decks.
One thing that makes these ants stand out from other ants is that they are pretty much the same size and physically look the same.
Army Ants (also known as Legionary Ants) is a blanket term that covers 200+ species of ants.
They are easily identified by the way they swarm in large numbers.
Army Ants do not make permanent nests.
You can spot these ants much more easily than other types of ants because they are much more noticeable in their large groups.
