read more › The striped skunk is common throughout the United States and Canada. Adult skunks begin breeding in late February, whereas yearling females mate in late March. Gestation lasts approximately 7 - 10 weeks. Older females tend to bear young in the first part of May, and yearling females tend to bear young in early June. Here in Southern California, we have found throughout the years that we start seeing baby skunks starting as early as January! Skunks usually have only one litter per year with 4 - 6 babies per litter.
